As part of its Capital Asset Management Service (CAMS) Program, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is seeking to more effectively assess and manage its real property assets. Many of VA’s medical campuses have underutilized property that may be converted to cash or in-kind services under its Enhanced-Use Lease (EUL) authority, allowing VA to build needed facilities to continue to deliver the highest quality of healthcare. VA Office of Asset Enterprise Management performed a comprehensive and systematic review of each of is real property assets and the Northport Veterans Affairs Medical Center (VAMC) Campus in Northport, NY was selected as having potential for an assisted living facility.
The Northport VAMC, located at 79 Middleville Road in Northport, NY, is part of the New York/New Jersey Veterans Integrated Service Network #3. Affiliated with the State University of New York Medical School at Stony Brook, the Northport VAMC offers quality medical, surgical, psychiatric, rehabilitative and skilled nursing care to Long Island Veterans. With highly qualified and experienced healthcare professionals, state-of-the-art technology, a full range of services, and high ratings with the Joint Commission on Accreditation of Healthcare Organizations and other respected accrediting health care organizations, the Northport VAMC has a reputation for providing superior healthcare to Long Island's Veterans.
VA seeks to competitively select a private developer to lease up to 20.5 acres of underutilized land (Parcel A and Parcel B) with improvements at the Northport VAMC campus. The successful private sector EUL bidder(s) will develop, operate and maintain an assisted living facility with priority for eligible Veterans and eligible non-veterans. The developer will provide cash or in-kind consideration to VA for the fair market value of the leased assets as approved by the Secretary.
