As part of its Capital Asset Management Service (CAMS) Program, the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is seeking to more effectively assess and manage its real property assets. Many of VA’s medical campuses have underutilized property that may be converted to cash or in-kind services under its Enhanced-Use Lease (EUL) authority, allowing VA to build needed facilities to continue to deliver the highest quality of healthcare. VA Office of Asset Enterprise Management performed a comprehensive and systematic review of each of is real property assets and the Central Alabama Veterans Health Care System (CAVHCS) East Campus in Tuskegee, AL was one of the sites selected as having potential for transitional or permanent housing to assist homeless Veterans and Veterans at risk for homelessness.
CAVHCS offers primary care, extended care, and specialty care. CAVHCS serves Veterans at dual locations in Central Alabama in the VA Southeast Network. They are located in Montgomery, AL, West Campus and Tuskegee, AL, East Campus. CAVHCS has four community-based outpatient clinics in Columbus, GA, two in Dothan, AL and the Wiregrass Clinic at Ft. Rucker.
VA seeks to competitively select a private developer for the renovation of Building 62 of the CAVHCS East Campus to meet the needs of the Tuskegee Homeless Housing Program. Building 62, located on the East Campus in Tuskegee, AL, is a four-story 78,722 square foot building that is structurally sound. The building is currently occupied but plans are in place for vacating the building. In order to utilize building 62, the building would have to be renovated. The end goal is to provide safe, secure, quality, affordable housing for homeless Veterans.
