The VA Building Utilization Review and Repurposing (BURR) initiative has identified underutilized land at the Charlie Norwood VA Medical Center — Uptown Division in a component of the VA Southeast Network Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN 7) in Augusta, GA for a long-term ground lease.  The Augusta VAMC is located in the City of Augusta in eastern Georgia, approximately 150 miles east of Atlanta and approximately 75 miles southwest of Columbia, SC.  Under the enhanced-use lease (EUL) proposal, underutilized property will be repurposed as senior independent living and non-senior assisted living, for Veterans and Veterans at risk of homelessness.

The potential EUL site contains the following parcel of underutilized land:

  • Building 18, a vacant 28,530 GSF former domiciliary suitable for residential reuse; attached to vacant Building 19 (does not convey) via connecting breezeway that is in deteriorating condition; to be conveyed with an approximately 2-acre land parcel for buffer space, parking and landscaping.

  • In an ongoing effort to eliminate homelessness among Veterans and their families, VA is proceeding with an agreement with a third-party provider to provide 30 permanent units of housing.
  • Floor Plans for Building 18 are now available for download.
  • The Request for Proposals closed November 9, 2011.
