The CBO Business Development staff develops and implements leading technology applications throughout VHA. By conducting market research and analyzing technological trends and industry-best practices, Business Development identifies, implements, and supports enhancements to current processes.

The Business Development staff provides technical support and expertise regarding VHA's Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act of 1996 (HIPAA). Management of the HIPAA compliance initiative includes monitoring VHA practices to ensure consistent application and practice across all components throughout the organization.

Business Development also maintains third party health care Electronic Data Interchange (EDI) initiatives and the Medicare Remittance Advice Project, ensuring expeditious payments and remittance from third party payers and the generation of accurate Medicare billing, respectively.
