VHA National Call Center – The Right Career Move

The Special Hiring Authority Initiative provides Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) special hiring authorities for Veterans. It gives special consideration to eligible Veterans that separated under honorable conditions, based on the following criteria: Veterans are eligible under the Special Hiring Authority initiative if they are 30% or greater Service Connected Disabled, or have been in combat, or have recently separated (within the last 3 years).

This program is important to Veterans because it provides Non-Competitive Consideration to Veterans. This means the job does not have to be advertised. If an opening exists, up to GS-11, the VA can fill that position with a qualified Special Hiring Authority Veteran. The Veteran must have the required skills and qualifications to successfully accomplish positional duties. Additionally, if the Veteran is 30% or greater Service Connected Disabled, then no grade restrictions exist (up to GS-15).
