Glatiramer Acetate Copaxone®

Glatiramer Acetate: Copaxone® treats relapsing forms of MS. Studies show that it can slow the accumulation of physical disability and reduces frequency of exacerbations when used regularly over long periods of time. It does not improve existing MS symptoms and it is not used to treat acute MS attacks. Glatiramer acetate is an injectable medication and is usually prescribed at a dose of 20mg administered subcutaneously (just under the skin) once a day. Auto-injectors, prefilled easy-to-use syringes, are available. The common side effects include injection-site reactions and redness around injection site. Immediately following an injection, some people experience chest pains, feelings of anxiety and/or panic-like reactions. These are short-lived and usually resolve in 15-20 minutes.
