VA Experts Panel Summary on Multiple Sclerosis
In this video, the panel of experts summarizes the key messages of this broadcast. MS is a complex disease and more work needs to be done on what are the risks factors for getting MS and what makes it progress. The VA has built up a supportive network that puts the patient in the middle of their care. New disease modifying therapies are coming on the market, although the side effects are not fully known. However, despite advances in disease-modifying therapies, in terms of the patient's quality of life and reduction in symptoms, they do relatively little. It's extremely important that providers talk to and listen to their patients about symptoms and develop a treatment plan that targets the symptoms that are bothering them. If providers do that, they will improve their patients' function and maximize their quality of life.
