Oral MS medications – Fingolimod (Gilenya)
Summarizing results from recent clinical research studies, Dr. Chris Bever discusses the risks and benefits of a new oral medication for MS called fingolimod. Doctors and patients alike are interested in finding an effective oral medication for MS because taking a pill once a day is easier for patients to manage than injected medications. Two different clinical trials have shown fingolimod to be effective, but it comes with risks that VA doctors and patients should carefully consider before using it as a first-line therapy.
