Health and Wellness Innovative Program Award
The National Veterans Golden Age Games (NVGAG) received the Health and Wellness Innovative Program Award at the National Senior Games Association (NSGA) Annual Meeting. The NSGA is a non-profit organization dedicated to motivating active adults to lead a healthy lifestyle through the senior games movement. The Games, a 19-sport, biennial competition for men and women 50 and over, it is the largest multi-sport event in the world for seniors. The NVGAG is a member organization that offers qualifying competitions for Veteran athletes to participate in the National Senior Games.
The NVGAG received the award for the Whole Heath Clinics offered at this year's event. The NVGAG partnered with the VA Office of Patient-Centered Care & Cultural Transformation to offer Whole Health education, instruction and resources to promote our “Fitness for Life” model throughout the year. The purpose for the program is to encourage our Veteran senior athletes to engage in an active, healthy lifestyle throughout the entire year.
NVGAG athletes, their caregivers/guests and VA clinicians who attend are able to learn new skills and practices for living an active, healthy lifestyle. Each athlete participant completes a Personal Health Inventory, to empower and equip them to take charge of their health and well-being, and live their life to the fullest.
