Program Support Assistant (Full Time)

The position is in the Center for Health Quality, Outcomes and Economic Research (CHQOER), a Department of Veterans Affairs Health Services Research and Development (HSR&D) Center of Excellence located at the Edith Nourse Rogers Memorial Veterans Hospital in Bedford, MA and affiliated with the Boston University School of Public Health. CHQOER research emphasizes the development of novel quantitative and qualitative approaches for assessing the quality and effectiveness of health care and applying this knowledge to solve select clinical, policy, and management problems faced by those responsible for improving the care of veterans.

This full-time position offers an exciting opportunity to participate in public health research in the areas of quality improvement and patient safety as part of the Risk Assessment and Patient Safety (RAPS) group within CHQOER.  The program support assistant’s role is to support, facilitate, and assist with research projects for all staff in RAPS.  The program support assistant will function under the direct supervision of Dr. Amy K. Rosen, a leading research scientist in the Veterans Health Administration. In addition, the program support assistant will work cooperatively with RAPS staff, and personnel at collaborating sites. The ideal candidate should have a variety of skills, including the ability to coordinate activities with various levels of project stakeholders, perform administrative tasks, and support project implementation initiatives. 

 

Specific responsibilities:

1.     Implements RAPS section administrative procedures: (a) establishing and maintaining project files and photocopying, (b) communicating and coordinating meetings (both face-to-face and conference call), (c) making copies, (d) creating and managing Excel databases, (e) helping manage RAPS staff schedules, (f) coordinating as needed with Boston University School of Public Health 

2.      Assist with grant support activities: (a) helping with grant proposal preparation, (b) coordinating with co-investigators and other personnel, (c) editing proposals

3.      Assist in preparation of research presentations and manuscripts: (a) managing electronic library database, (b) updating manuscripts with appropriate references, (c) preparing PowerPoint presentation templates, (d) creating tables, graphs, figures, etc. for manuscripts or presentations, (e) editing manuscripts for publication

4.      Assist with Institutional Review Board (IRB) applications: (a) preparing research materials including consent forms, assessment instruments, and other data collection forms, (b) preparing IRB documents and attachments, (c) coordinating with IRBs at the Bedford VA and other institutions

 

Qualifications/Requirements:

The ideal candidate should have a Bachelor’s degree and excellent organization and computer skills.  Experience is preferred.  Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, PowerPoint and ability to conduct electronic database (e.g. PubMed, Ovid, and Medline) and internet searches required.  Knowledge of reference software (e.g. EndNote) and website design preferred.

 

The position requires superior speaking and writing skills and the ability to communicate effectively with research team members, co-investigators, and various project stakeholders.  The ideal candidate should possess the ability to work independently at a high level of competency and efficiency and must have the ability to manage multiple priorities and organize effectively
