Learn more about your disease and how you can become an active partner in your healthcare.  Family members and significant others are encouraged to attend classes with patients.   Please talk to your provider about signing up for the class you need. These classes can make a difference.

Class:  Congestive Heart Failure (CHF) Education Clinic

Summary:   
Review general facts about CHF, importance of medication compliance, fluid control and low sodium diet, and exercise and their impact on quality of life.  Discuss the importance of monitoring blood pressure, weight and peak flow daily.  The CHF Clinic nurse will schedule you for this class.


 

Class:  Chronic Obstructive Pulmonary Disease (CODP) Education Clinic

Describes the signs and symptoms of low blood sugar (hypoglycemia) and high blood sugar (hyperglycemia) and what to do about it.  Demonstrates the use of the glucometer and use of a logbook.  Providers schedule this class when they order a glucometer.

  Health Benefits Seminar

Reviews benefits and services available thru Dorn VAMC.  Designed for new enrollees and are scheduled by Primary Care.  Patients receive first Primary Care appointment within 30 days after attending class.  Patients from the Dorn VA waiting list are scheduled for this class.

  Hearing Aid Follow-up Class

Answers the question "What is hepatitis C?'   Reviews signs and symptoms of Hepatitis C, treatment options and prevention of transmission.  Discusses the effects of alcohol and other drugs on the liver.  Patients are scheduled for this clinic on the day they are scheduled for their Hepatitis C Clinic appointment.

 High Blood Pressure Multidisciplinary Patient Education Class

A crash course on what patients need to know as soon as they are diagnosed.  Defines pre-diabetes and type 1 & 2 diabetes.  Discusses impaired glucose tolerance, meal planning, monitoring, hypoglycemia, hyperglycemia, safety, medication, when to contact your provider, exercise and individual concerns.  Talk to your provider or nurse about scheduling you for the class.
