Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center is a Joint Commission accredited, complexity level 3 facility serving Veterans in Pennsylvania, Delaware and Maryland. The VA Medical Center is located in Coatesville, PA with outpatient clinics located in Springfield and Spring City, PA. 

 

Coatesville Veterans Affairs Medical Center is an integrated health care system that provides high quality care and service to Veterans. Programs and treatment are focused heavily on mental health care, geriatrics and extended care, primary care, specialty and women’s health care, rehabilitative services, pharmacy and social work services. The 42-building facility sits on 128 acres and celebrated its 80^th anniversary in November, 2010.

 

The medical center served 18,558 Veterans and had 200,702 outpatient visits in FY 2012.

 

Two non-VA organizations, the Philadelphia Veterans Multi-Service & Education Center and Fresh Start, Inc., operate residential housing facilities for Veterans on the campus. The Mary E. Walker House provides transitional housing for homeless women Veterans, and LZII and Fresh Start provide transitional housing for homeless male Veterans. Independence Hall is a transitional residence program for male Veterans with serious mental illness.

Services Available

Primary Care

Acute and chronic medical condition management; diagnostic services including laboratory, pharmacy and radiology; health promotion and disease prevention; patient and caregiver eduction; specialty clinics including audiology, dental, infectious disease, neurology, nutrition, optometry, pain management, podiatry, respiratory services, urology, women veterans health; specialty care referrals; special examinations including agent orange, compensation and pension, ionizing radiation, persian gulf; urgent care/follow up care.

Geriatrics & Extended Care Services

Adult day care; caregiver support services, chaplaincy, community living center including dementia care, geropsychiatric care, inpatient hospice care, rehabilitative care; community residential care referrals, in home skilled care, geriatric adult day care, dementia clinic, home based primary care, homemaker home health aide, hospice and palliative care, physical medicine and rehabilitation, respite care, speech pathology and audiology.

Mental Health Services

Community residential care including case management, emergency staff response care, group therapy, housing placement assistance, individual therapy, life skills education, social skills development, stress management education; Homeless domiciliary care including group therapy, individual therapy, life skills education, post traumatic stress disorder group therapy, relapse prevention education, alcoholics and narcotics anonymous group support, substance abuse recovery skills education, vocational counseling and placement; inpatient psychiatry including psychiatric assessment and evidence-based treatment, rapid crisis management, symptom stabilization and treatment, family counseling, individual and group therapy, medication therapy, psychological assessment, social work services, community living reintegration; Mental health outpatient clinic inlcuding biofeedback therapy, crisis intervention, individual, family and group therapy, marital counseling,neuropsychological assessment and neurocognitive rehabilitation therapy, patient education, pharmacotherapy, polytrauma treatment, evidence-based individual and group therapy, psychological testing, diagnosis and evaluation, social work services, traumatic brain injury evaluation and treatment, vocational counseling and placement; post traumatic stress disorder residential unit including evidence based individual psychotherapy, group therapy, family counseling, anger management, relpase prevention, substance abuse education, narcotics and alcoholics anonymous support group, mindfulness training; substance use treatment (outpatient and residential) including detoxification treatment, dual diagnosis treatment, group therapy, individual therapy, impaired driver program including DUI evaluation, outpatient day and evening treatment, parenting skills education, relapse prevention education and suboxone induction and treatment.
