On June 9, 2014 Kate Andrews  was named Acting Executive Director of the Office of Strategic Integration, she began her VA career in 2003 as a University of Maryland Chief Resident at the VA Maryland Health Care System (VAMHCS) in Baltimore, Maryland.  After joining the medical staff at VAMHCS in 2004, Dr. Andrews variously served as Primary Care Clinic Lead, Director of Medical Affiliations, and Managed Care Deputy Director.  At VAMHCS, Dr. Andrews focused on improving the educational experiences of physician-trainees, enhancing patient satisfaction, and improving health care quality. 

In 2009, Dr. Andrews joined the VA Capitol Network (VISN5) staff as the Quality Management Officer, and soon added the role of VISN Primary Care Lead to her duties.   At VISN5, she developed programs designed to bring staff from local medical centers together to solve problems in a collegial and collaborative environment.  Her efforts to foster the Patient Centered Medical Home led to Dr. Andrews’ selection as the Patient Aligned Care Team Coordinator, and she later served as VISN5 Interim Chief Medical Officer.
 
Dr. Andrews was detailed to the Office of Healthcare Transformation in September of 2010, and in May 2011 she was appointed Transformation Lead, New Models of Health Care.  As the New Models Lead, she led a diverse team focused on national implementation of key Transformation Initiatives impacting the health care of Veterans.  In September of 2013, Dr. Andrews became the Deputy Director, Office of Strategic Integration, and in June 2014, she became the Acting Executive Director, Office of Strategic Integration.   
 
Dr. Andrews holds an MBA from the Johns Hopkins University Carey School of Business, and earned Senior Level Federal Acquisition Certification for Program and Project Managers in August of 2012.
