About DM&EEO
The Office of Diversity Management and Equal Employment Opportunity (DM&EEO) advises and supports the Assistant Secretary for Human Resources and Administration in workforce diversity issues. The office also supports the Secretary, Deputy Secretary, Under Secretaries, and Assistant Secretaries in their actions to achieve and sustain a diverse workforce.
DM&EEO provides leadership in establishing the Department's diversity policy and in designing, maintaining, and evaluating diversity strategies. It works to enhance the employment of women, minorities, veterans, and persons with disabilities through four main areas: (1) Workforce Analysis and Evaluation, (2) Complaints Prevention and Special Emphasis, (3) Outreach and Special Initiatives, and (4) Communications and Awareness.
The Workforce Analysis and Evaluation Team establishes strategies and guidance for achieving diversity Department-wide through such initiatives as the workforce planning and analysis system, conducting technical assistance and training, creating diversity tools for managers and supervisors, and preparing ad hoc reports. This Team is also responsible for the Department's annual affirmative employment plan and report.
The Complaints Prevention and Special Emphasis Team takes the lead on diversity and affirmative employment policy, special emphasis programs, internships, and training and education, and the majority of the Department's annual reports to the White House Initiatives Offices, the Office of Personnel Management, and the Equal Employment Opportunity Commission. The team also works to reduce (and prevent) discrimination complaints in the Department, by providing onsite reviews to assess the effectiveness of facility-level EEO programs, and providing training on complaints prevention, diversity awareness, equal employment opportunity, and affirmative employment.
The Outreach and Special Initiatives Team takes the lead on high-level initiatives, like building a “community prosperity partnership” with the League of United Latin American Citizens and the American GI Forum, developing a Hispanic recruitment strategy, establishing the VA Diversity Advisory Council, and implementing the Office of Human Resources and Administration’s strategic plan.
The Communications and Awareness Team provides diversity and EEO information through the distribution of a weekly electronic news summary, the production of a monthly video news program, the publication of a bimonthly newsletter, and the preparation of various how-to guides and special reports. The team also maintains DM&EEO’s Web site, to provide an archive of information and a gateway to resources related to diversity and inclusion.
Note: Our Office is not authorized to handle discrimination complaints. Please contact the Office of Resolution Management with those inquiries.
