Tammie R. Kierstead
Equal Opportunity Assistant
VA Medical Center
Oklahoma City, Oklahoma

Ms. Kierstead has made significant accomplishments to the EEO program since she joined the Oklahoma City VA Medical Center in 1998. As the liaison to the EEO Advisory Committee, she challenges committee members (and others) to stay finely-tuned to the needs and goals of the entire workforce. She also encourages the recognition and reward of EEO Advisory Committee members and Service Chiefs who have made a positive impact on the medical center.

Ms. Kierstead has consistently delivered quality programs designed to bring about opportunities for employees and applicants for employment. Her enthusiasm and creativity in support of the medical center’s extensive EEO initiatives help EEO representatives think “outside the box.”

Ms. Kierstead develops and conducts EEO and cultural diversity training, as well as helps to provide other developmental opportunities to enhance communication and cooperation within the medical center. She also assisted with the development of an annual, 3-day EEO cultural diversity leadership training for all special emphasis program managers and arranged for national training facilitators to provide new and fresh approaches.

Ms. Kierstead has also established relationships with various community organizations, enhancing VA’s image as an equal opportunity employer.
