Section 110
Establishes the following affirmative agency
responsibilities with respect to historic properties:
- Assume responsibility for the preservation of historic properties which are owned or
controlled by the agency and use historic properties available to the agency to the
maximum extent feasible;
- Establish a program to locate, inventory, and nominate to the National Register all
properties under the agency's ownership or control;
- Exercise caution to assure that any eligible property is not inadvertently transferred,
sold, demolished, substantially altered, or allowed to deteriorate significantly.
- Initiate measures to assure that historic properties which will be substantially altered
or demolished as a result of Federal action or assistance will be recorded prior to
demolition.
- Designate a qualified preservation officer who will be responsible for coordinating the
agency's activities under the National Historic Preservation Act.
- Carry out the agency's programs and projects in accordance with the purposes of the Act.
- Undertake such planning and actions as may be necessary to minimize harm
to a National Historic Landmark which may be directly and adversely affected by a Federal
undertaking.
