converted to a resort hotel named for Gen. Leonard Wood. Buildings 18, 19, 20 are
significant. Although the complex contains earlier structures not part of the
"set" these buildings have been associated with the VA health care delivery
system since the 1920's and therefore are significant.

During early Memorial Day
ceremonies, young blacks in enthusiastic celebration of their freedom fired off the cannon
at the cemetery with several injuries and the result that the cannons were turned barrel
up and the tubes blocked with cannon balls of larger bore than the barrels.
