Established in 1890's as part of the Army transition from scattered frontier garrisons to concentrations of troops at major rail heads. During WWII part of Fort was used as training site for joint U.S.-Canadian First Special Service Force known as The Devil's Brigade. Old fort buildings and parade grounds are of greatest importance.
