Chapel 1901-appr.
Site is frequently but erroneously identified as old P.T. Barnum estate. Property was the estate of Fredrick Bailey who is not the Bailey of Barnum and Bailey. Original existing buildings were an orphanage, Catholic Orphans Asylum, under the direction of the Sisters of Charity. Despite rumors, the orphanage was not designed by Stanford White and the chapel windows are not by Tiffany.
