Personnel Quarters 1891

Fort Meade was established shortly after the Battle of Little Big Horn to protect settlers and miners and to try to contain Indians on reservations. Comanche, Lt. Keoh's horse, sole survivor of Battle of Little Big Horn, resided as honored retiree at fort for many years. Star Spangled Banner first ordered played here for all official functions - a practice soon followed by all armed forces - before it became the National Anthem. Barracks, stables, quarters and parade grounds of prime significance.
