Former Mountain Branch of
National Home for Disabled Volunteer Soldiers. Established in 1903 to provide care for
southern Union veterans and expanded veteran demand due to Spanish American War veterans.
Beaux Art design is significant in its own right. Station was not designed by Stanford
White as often stated. It was designed by J. H. Freelander of New York. Andrew Carnegie
donated $25,000 for the library. All pre-1930 buildings are significant.
