VA Video: Dementia Competencies at Home

VA has a program called Dementia Competencies At Home. The mission is to maintain our veterans in their home through dementia care education and support to their caregivers. First VA staff assess veterans in the Golden Memory Clinic, examining them for their memory and functional status. The caregiver’s burden is also evaluated. Then, VA staff schedule a home visit with the caregiver and cover fall prevention, firearms in the home, and wandering caused by dementia. Caregivers get the tools they need to keep their home safe. VA staff can also keep in touch with caregivers through a regularly scheduled video visits. (1.5 minutes)
