Can I Still Use My Local Pharmacy?
Yes. You should use your local pharmacy for urgent care medications like pain medications and antibiotics. Remember that you will have to pay the 25% cost share and annual deductible when using your local pharmacy.
Can I Still Use Meds by Mail If I Have Other Health Insurance that has Pharmacy Coverage?
No. If you have other health insurance that includes pharmacy coverage, you are not eligible to utilize Meds by Mail. Be sure to notify CBOPC of any changes in your other health insurance coverage. Call 1-800-733-8387.
What Kind Of Medicines Can I Get By Using Meds By Mail?
- Maintenance medications, which are taken for longer periods of time, such as blood pressure, heart, arthritis and chronic pain medications.
- Medications included in the CHAMPVA pharmacy policy. "Over the Counter" items that do not need a prescription are not covered (exception for insulin and insulin supplies).
- Generic medications – to see if your medication is available call the Pharmacy Servicing Center (1-866-229-7389).
- Brand name medications are limited as Meds by Mail promotes generic medications, call the Pharmacy Servicing Center (1-866-229-7389) to see if the brand name is available. If it is not, you will have to use your local pharmacy and pay the 25% cost share and annual deductible.
- Certain controlled maintenance medications in Schedule 3, 4 and 5. For example, generic equivalents of Tylenol No. 3, Valium, Klonopin, Vicodin, and many others are available. All Schedule 2 narcotic medications such are Percocet, Ritalin, and Oxycontin are NOT available and must be filled at your local pharmacy.
How Do I Place An Order?
Have your doctor write a new prescription for a 90-day supply plus refills, not to exceed one (1) year.
- Complete the Meds by Mail order form
- Forms missing information will result in delayed processing or returned prescriptions
- Include the patient's Social Security number on the form
- Be sure the prescription has the doctor's printed name, phone number, and mailing address
- Mail in the original prescription (not a copy) with the completed order form
How Do I Get A Refill?
If your doctor wrote the prescription with refills, there are two easy ways to request your medication. Please allow 7 to 10 days to receive your medication.
- Call in your refill request using the 24 hour automated refill phone line at 1-888-370-1699.
*Be sure to have your Social Security number and prescription numbers available.
- Mail in the refill slip included with your last mail order delivery to Meds by Mail.
*If you choose this option, mail in your refill slips as soon as you receive your prescription.
How Long Does It Take To Get A Prescription Filled?
- New prescriptions require 18 to 21 days for processing and mailing
- Refills require 7 to 10 days for processing and mailing
My Prescription Was Returned to Me Stating That I Am Not Eligible. Why?
Eligibility is determined by CBOPC, not Meds by Mail. If you feel you should be eligible, contact CBOPC, Monday-Friday 8:05 a.m. to 7:30 p.m. (Eastern Time) at 1-800-733-8387.
