April 2007 Request for Proposals distributed to Veterans Integrated Service Networks, Offices in Central Office, VA facilities, schools of nursing, and professional and other organizations. Press Release issued as soon as possible thereafter.
May 15, 2007 Letter of Intent due to VA Nursing Academy in the Office of Academic Affiliations (See Attachment A).
Jun. 14, 2007 Proposals are due to the VA Nursing Academy in the Office of Academic Affiliations (See instructions in Attachments B and C).
Jul. 25, 2007 Applying partnerships will be notified of selection/non-selection.
Aug. 2007
  1. Nursing school faculty are appointed to paid part-time VA positions for supervision of students and services at VA facilities.
  2. VA nurse experts who will participate in the program are appointed as VA-based faculty of the nursing school.
  3. Arrangements are made for an increased number of nursing students to receive enhanced clinical experiences at VA facilities.
  4. Schools increase enrollment.
Aug. 2007 - Sep. 2008 Program implementation. Evaluation is planned and implemented locally and nationally and plans are made for second year of the program.

Apr. 23, 2008 Proposals are due to the Office of Academic Affiliations (See instructions in Attachments B and C).
Jun. 4, 2008 Applying partnerships will be notified of selection/non-selection.
Jul. - Sep. 2008 Program implementation begins.
  • Nursing school-based faculty are appointed to paid VA positions or assigned to VA under an IPA agreement to provide services at or for VA facilities.
  • VA nurses who will participate in the program are appointed as VA-based faculty of the nursing school, are oriented to their roles, and participate in faculty development activities.
  • Arrangements are made for an increased number of nursing students to receive enhanced clinical experiences at VA facilities.
  • Schools increase enrollment as required in RFP.
  • Evaluation is planned and implemented locally and nationally.
Sep. 2008 - May 2009 Program implementation continued. Plans are made for second year of the program.
Sep. 26, 2008 First Annual Report due to the Office of Academic Affiliations.
