Summary
The VA Office of Inspector General (OIG) conducted a review to evaluate selected health care facility operations, focusing on patient care quality and the environment of care. During the review, OIG provided crime awareness briefings to 84 employees. This review focused on nine operational activities. The facility complied with selected standards in the following three activities: (1) medication management, (2) computed tomography radiation monitoring, and (3) advance directives. The facility’s reported accomplishment was receiving the VA National Center for Patient Safety’s Gold Cornerstone Award. OIG made recommendations for improvement in the following six activities: (1) quality management, (2) environment of care, (3) coordination of care, (4) emergency airway management, (5) Mental Health Residential Rehabilitation Treatment Program, and (6) suicide prevention program.
