Telling Your Story

Hometown News lets local newspapers know about your participation and accomplishments in the Games. We prepare individual news releases about any Veteran who completed and signed consent forms and place them, along with a photo, on the Games website where they are available to your hometown media, family and friends.

We hope to have individual releases posted by Thursday; most photos should be online by Friday.

We can never guarantee that media outlets will print the information, but we do our best to make it available to media throughout the country.We also plan to contact local media by email and phone to generate interest in your extraordinary stories and experiences throughout the week.

If you requested a news release, you will receive a copy of it at the end of the week. We also hope to provide each athlete with one printed photograph.

HERL

Stop by the HERL area at the convention center to learn more about the labs and to participate in special research projects designed specifically for Veterans at the Games. This week’s research will center on:

• Evaluating the influence of participating in sports on quality of life.
• Studying vibration exposure for manual wheelchair users »»seeking feedback on HERL technology through focus groups.
• Examining the physical activity of manual wheelchair users.
• Studying fatigue (in hopes of reducing upper-limb injuries).
• Improving power chair control using a virtual environment.

Getting in the Game

First-timers share their journeys to the Games

Scoba F. Rhodes Jr. traveled to Pittsburgh this week from Long Beach, Calif. The
45-year-old Navy Veteran says he heard about the Games “from doctors, Paralyzed
Veterans members, recreational therapists—basically you have to be living
under a rock to not hear about the Games.” Read more.
