The VA is launching its new “Understanding Verification” training series, which offers an integrated approach to learning about the processes, policy and regulation that governs the Veterans First Program.  Training will be available every 3rd Friday from February 2013 through June 2013.  For Verification counselors who are interested in becoming VA certified to counsel Veterans who are undergoing verification, training is mandatory, along with completion of the pre and post course assessments.  Certification will be issued once a counselor has demonstrated comprehensive understanding by passing the final knowledge assessment.

An integral part of successfully completing the Verification process is having knowledge of the policy, processes, and stages that make up the Veteran’s First Contracting Program. This training session will help you take the necessary steps to:

  • Understand the roles, responsibilities and interdependence of the Office of Small Business Utilization (OSDBU) and the Center for Veterans Enterprise (CVE), both dedicated to supporting Veteran-owned businesses
  • Know the objectives of  the Veteran’s First Contracting Program
  • Understand the various stages of the verification process needed to qualify for the Veterans First Contracting Program
  • The role of policy mandates and application of Title 38 Code of Regulations (CFR) Part 74 when applying for verification
  • Become familiar with Public Law 109-461, Public Law 11-275 and Title 38 CFR Part 74
  • Understand the application of regulation in determination letters
  • Understand VIP/VCMS-How it works and what is does, including the creation of accounts and how to navigate through
