The Behavioral Medicine Clinic is located at the Highland Drive Division.
Our health status is affected not only by biological factors, but by social and
psychological factors. An alteration in our social or psychological condition
may result in a health related problem, or make an existing health problem more
difficult to handle. On the other hand, having a serious health related problem
can make it difficult to cope with everyday stress, impacting on our
psychological or social state. Health related problems that have been found to
be affected by psychological factors include diabetes, high blood pressure,
headaches, cancer, insomnia, asthma and heart disease. We know that daily habits are directly related to health status. What we eat,
how much we eat, whether or not we smoke, and our ability to effectively cope
with life stressors contribute to how susceptible we are to health related
problems. The good news is that we can significantly improve our health status
by learning more appropriate health behaviors and coping strategies.
We provide a
variety of individual, family, and group programs designed to help veterans and
their families develop healthier behaviors and coping styles, and thus lead
