Rajiv Jain, MD, FACP
Chief of Staff
Rajiv Jain, MD, is the senior clinical leader for
VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System (VAPHS), overseeing
the clinical management of three campuses, with
692 operating beds distributed among medicine,
surgery, psychiatry, intermediate care, nursing home
care and a domiciliary. Dr. Jain is also the MRSA
Program Director
at VAPHS and Co-Chair of the Veterans Health
Administration’s MRSA Prevention Implementation Task
Force, a national initiative began at VAPHS to
reduce and prevent Methicillin-resistant
Staphylococcus aureus (MRSA). In addition Dr. Jain
serves as Professor of Medicine and Assistant Dean
for Veterans Affairs at
the University of Pittsburgh School of Medicine.
Dr. Jain received his Doctor of Medicine degree from
Saurashtra University in India, in 1972. His
graduate medical training included a residency in
medicine, then a fellowship in hematology/oncology
at the University of Connecticut affiliated program
in Hartford, Connecticut, from 1974-1978. He also
served a Hematology Fellowship at the University of
Virginia Hospital in Charlottesville, Virginia from
1978-79.
Dr. Jain is a Diplomate of the American Board of
Internal Medicine, Hematology and Oncology
Subspecialties. He is a fellow of the American
College of Physicians. Dr. Jain served as the Chief
of Staff of the VA Medical Center in Salem,
Virginia, from 1993 until accepting the position of
Chief of Staff of VA Pittsburgh Healthcare System in
November 2000. Dr. Jain also served as VAPHS Acting
Director for several months during the search,
recruitment, and selection process for a new VAPHS
Director.
