Advanced Practice Nursing Council

The APN Council is a diverse group of Advanced Practice Nurses, Nurse Practitioners and Clinical Nurse Specialists who practice in all Divisions of the VA Pittsburgh Health Care System.  The APN Council supports the mission and goals of the Medical Center through research, clinical practice, education/career development, leadership development, technology and quality performance.

Membership comprises Registered Nurses who function in an advanced practice role in a variety of settings.  The APN Council serves as a resource to all areas of the Medical Center by providing leadership in practice through consultation, outcome based research and analysis of issues affecting patient care.  The Council promotes collegiality and collaboration among health care providers.

The APN Council encourages all advance practice nurses to participate in monthly meetings.  Co-chairpersons, one nurse practitioner and one clinical specialist serve for a 2-year term.  The NELC assigns a nurse liaison member to the APN Council on a rotation basis to act as an advisor.
