Clinical
Council
Consistent high quality nursing practice is
essential in a complex healthcare system where nurses work in a variety of
services and specialties. Standardizing clinical practice across services and
specialties is the role of the Nursing Clinical Council. This council's
membership includes nursing representation from all service areas of the Medical
Center as well as other professionals from a variety of disciplines including
pharmacists, dieticians, and respiratory therapy. This group is charged with
identifying standard nursing practices across all services and specialties.
Additionally, the Nursing Clinical Council has oversight responsibility for the
Nursing Standards of Care Committee. Nursing practice issues from the council
are taken to the Nursing Executive Leadership Council, which is chaired by the
Nurse Executive. Requests for change in nursing practice standards are approved
in that forum based on the recommendation of the Nursing Clinical Council
chairperson and the deliberations of the executive leadership. Through this
process, nursing clinical practice is standardized across all service lines and
specialties affording the nurse with the knowledge and tools needed to provide
the highest possible quality care to the veteran patient.
