Nursing Research Council

Mission:  The mission of the Nursing Research Council is to develop, implement, promote, facilitate and evaluate a research program that focuses on customers and contributes to improved care delivery by encouraging the use of research based practice. Research refers to a continuum that includes knowledge creation, dissemination, and utilization. This program is conducted in collaboration with all levels of staff, as appropriate, based on their research interests and abilities.

Vision:
The Nursing Research Council’s Vision is to develop an environment of inquiry and openness to change accomplished through a cohesive team effort that includes the customer.

This Year's Accomplishments:  The Nursing Research Council has been quite active over the past year.  The council developed Nursing Research Mentoring Guidelines to promote increased participation in nursing research. Two of our members have been connected with mentors and we are waiting to hear back from them about their experiences so that improvements can be made. We also developed and conducted a Nursing Research Survey so that we can understand the attitudes our nurses have about nursing research and guide our programs over the coming months. The results should be available and posted on the website soon.  We are excited to be chosen as one of the sites to participate in a VA Collaborative Study, Nurse Staffing and Patient Outcomes in the VA. They will survey 55,000 VA nurses across the country for this study.

Nursing Research Council was also charged with presenting the annual Pittsburgh Nursing Research Conference. This year’s conference will be held at Allegheny General Hospital on October 27th so save the date! The call for abstracts has already gone out and we expect to hear from nurses from the tri-state area.  This year’s theme is Evidence-Based Nursing Practice: A Call To All Nurses and our keynote speaker will be Suzanne Prevost, RN, PhD from the Middle Tennessee State University and a board member of the American Association of Critical Care Nurses Certification Corporation. She received her original degree in nursing from the Southside Hospital School of Nursing right here in Pittsburgh. We look forward to her presentation.

We have once again facilitated a poster display for Nurses week 2003 highlighting the accomplishments of VA nurse researchers. This poster’s will be:
