Telemetry
Program
The Medical Specialty Service Line Telemetry Service consists of five certified
nurse practitioners, supervised by a physician and trained registered nursing
staff was instituted to help meet the following goals:
1. To conform to JCAHO (Joint Commission on Accreditation
of Healthcare Organizations and Residency Review Committee standards by
decreasing the number of hours worked by Housestaff.
2. To decrease the wait for monitor bed referrals from outlying hospitals and
reduce dependency on contracting with non-VA institutions for monitor bed
care. Guidelines for telemetry care have been implemented.
This program was able to reduce housestaff hours, expanded the monitored
bed capacity
of the teritary care facility at a lower cost in an acute medical unit and demonstrated favorable patient care
outcomes.
