Welcome to VAi2, the flagship Open Government initiative for the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs – a 300,000-person organization executing a single mission: serving those who served. VAi2 creates opportunities for the Department to test new ideas from industry, VA employees, and academia. Our focus is on improving access, quality, cost, and satisfaction throughout the Department.
VAi2 pursues this goal in three ways: employee competitions, industry competitions, and special projects. This allows us to tap into rich sources of innovation while remaining flexible to capture new opportunities.
Follow us here on the web and on Facebook, Twitter, and LinkedIn to get the latest news on new competitions, project awards, and special projects.
VAi2 manages the annual VA Industry Innovation Competition. These competitions are designed to give the Department a structured way to get the best thinking from the private sector to solve the VA's most pressing challenges. We're interested in solutions from all types of organizations – from established leaders in industry to new start-ups, non-profits, and academic institutions.
Those selected for award work with VAi2 to design a pilot implementation based on their proposals. After the pilot is completed, each project is evaluated. The most successful will go on to broader deployment and eventually national rollout.
VAi2 has held two Industry Innovation Competitions since 2010. These competitions have resulted in nearly 600 ideas submitted from industry across eleven topic areas. In total, 37 projects have been selected for award and are in various stages of project design, development, testing, and evaluation.
