Veterans Industries

Martinsburg, WV 

Established in June 1995, Veterans Industries (VI) in Martinsburg, WV is CARF   and Joint Commission on Accreditation of Hospital Organizations (JCAHO) accredited.  It is a fully-integrated component of Mental Health Serivce located at the VA Medical Center in Martinsburg, WV and the Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN5) Capitol Network, which includes VA Medical Center facilities in Maryland (Baltimore and Perry Point) and Washington, DC.  VI also serves the Community Based Outpatient Clinics (CBOC) throughout the VISN5 catchment’s area including areas of Virginia, West Virginia, Pennsylvania, and Maryland.

Veterans Industries was established through USC 38, Section 1718which provides vocational re-training of Veterans.  The primary goal is to reintegrate Veterans into career track positions in the community through employment contracts with local organizations. 

The Veterans Industries program is designed to create a therapeutic / realistic work environment.   It is a comprehensive vocational and rehabilitation service program, wherein the assignment of veterans to a comprehensive therapeutic work milieu is designed to provide residential support skills, job readiness, money management, independent living skills, and vocational counseling. The objectives of Veteran Industries are to: 

(1)   Reinforce, modify, or develop appropriate working ethics and behaviors necessary to continue a maximum level of social, psychological, physical, and vocational adjustment;

(2)   Create a realistic, remunerative, non-institutional working environment conducive to the development of work tolerance and effective learning of appropriate work habits and skills in preparation for successful reentry into the community.
