How the BHL can Help with Treatment for Alcohol Misuse
Alcohol misuse includes not only alcohol abuse and dependence, but also at-risk drinking. Many such problems remain undetected, particularly those who are at-risk drinking. As individuals visit their Primary Care Clinicians frequently, Primary Care Clinicians have the opportunity to play a key role in detecting alcohol misuse and in initiating prevention or treatment efforts. The VA, like many primary care practices, annually screens for alcohol misuse to assist in the recognition of patients with unhealthy levels of drinking. The Behavioral Health Lab works with the Primary Care Clinicians to facilitate accurate diagnosis, effective treatment, and continued care.
