Behavioral Health Laboratory

Providers

The Behavioral Health Laboratory (BHL) is a clinical service designed to assist Primary Care Clinicians in the diagnosis and management of patients with mental health or substance abuse problems.

The BHL is easily accessible to the Primary Care Clinicians (PCCs), providing rapid triage through assessments, reports and treatment recommendations. This service is a valuable resource of support and knowledge for the PCCs regarding mental health issues.

The BHL assists in the evaluation and management of patients who are identified during primary care visits, through assessments and screenings, as having symptoms of depression, anxiety, post-traumatic stress disorder, and/or alcohol misuse. The BHL conducts a short telephone interview with these patients, and then provides the Primary Care Clinicians with a summary of patients’ mental health and substance abuse (MH/SA) symptoms. In addition, the BHL provides a source of disease management services including: monitoring patients through their initial course of treatment for depression; treatment decision support; recommendations for referral to specialty MH/SA services; and recruitment for approved research projects.

The BHL is not available in all medical centers. If your center is interested in developing this model, please click here for contact information.
