Dr. Katz is an internationally recognized expert in geriatric psychiatry with a specialization in the relationship between mental and physical comorbidity.  Dr. Katz is currently Professor of Psychiatry at the University of Pennsylvania School of Medicine and at the Philadelphia VAMC.  He is the Director of the Section of Geriatric Psychiatry at University of Pennsylvania and Director of Geriatric Psychiatry at the Philadelphia VAMC.  Dr. Katz is the Principal Investigator of several NIH awards and is currently the Principal Investigator of an NIMH sponsored Intervention Research Center focused on Medical Psychiatric Comorbidity in Late Life and a Postdoctoral Training Program on Psychiatry-Medical Comorbidity.  He directs NIMH, SAMHSA and VA funded projects on the delivery of mental health care to older primary care patients.  He is also a PI of NIMH grants examining the treatment of depression in nursing homes and the detection of cognitive, affective and behavioral side effects of medications used in general medical care.
