Mr. David J. West was appointed to the position of Medical Center Director at VA Healthcare Network Upstate New York at Bath Medical Center effective April 29, 2007.

Prior to being appointed Director for the Bath VA Mr. West served as the Associate Director at the Washington, DC VA Medical Center.

Mr. West began his career with VA in1987 at the Washington DC VA Medical Center as a Radiologic Technologist.

Over the years, Mr. West has held positions of progressively greater responsibility. He has been the Director of Primary Care at the Lebanon, Pennsylvania VA Medical Center; Director of the Business Office and the Executive Officer at the Washington DC VA Medical Center.

Mr. West served in the U.S. Army from 1973 to 1978. He holds a Master of Science degree in Health Services Administration from the College of St. Frances in Joliet, Illinois. In 2005, he became a Fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives and serves on several national and Veterans Integrated Service Network (VISN) level committees and task forces. He is the recipient of numerous performance and special achievement awards.

Dr. Fantuzzo received his medical degree at the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. After an internship in Detroit and residency at State University of New York at Stony Brook, he opened a solo practice in Rochester, New York and practiced medicine there for 20 years. Dr. Fantuzzo has been a clinical instructor at the New York and Philadelphia Colleges of Osteopathic Medicine, and at the University of Rochester.

He is a long - standing member of the Monroe Medical Society and the American Academy of Family Physicians. "My interest in veterans’ health stemmed from my close relationship with two uncles who served in WW II and Korea. I have learned to listen to their stories and the stories of other veterans who often only share their combat experiences with their physician. I feel honored to be able to use my training and talent to guide them."

Shirley Pikula began her nursing career as a Diploma Graduate from Highland School of Nursing in Oakland California. In 1990, she completed a Bachelor of Science Degree through the University of the State of New York. She also completed a Bachelor of Science in Community Nursing, Master of Science in Community Nursing, and, Master of Science in Health Services Administration in 2000 at D'Youville College, Buffalo, New York. Ms. Pikula began her VA career as a staff nurse in the Intensive Care Unit and worked in that capacity for almost 10 years. She has served VA as a Research Assistant, Quality Management Coordinator, and, Decision Support System Clinical Coordinator. For the past five years, she has been a Clinical Advisor responsible for improving care processes for medicine, surgery, ambulatory care, compensation and pension, and, fee basis. Prior to joining VA, she worked in intensive care, outpatient services, and home care as well as a head nurse of a surgical unit, burn unit and a supervisor of a skilled nursing facility.

She is a member of Sigma Theta Tau International Honor Society of Nursing. She has been a Certified Professional in Healthcare Quality since 1990. She received a Foley Award for Manager of the Year and is a graduate of the Northeast Health Care Leadership Institute. She has received numerous awards and has made presentations at local and national events.

Having come from a family with a long history of military service in World War II and Vietnam, she is honored to serve the veteran population.
