For Your Safety
Valuables
For your safekeeping you are advised to keep all
valuables at home. The Medical Center is not
responsible for money or other valuables that you
might bring and store in your room. We ask that
you keep no more than $10 cash on hand. Any
additional money should be deposited with the
Agent Cashier.
Agent Cashier
The Agent Cashier assists patients with check
cashing, travel funds, and co-payments. The Agent
Cashier's office is located in building 2's basement,
room 15. It is open from 8:00 a.m. - 4:00 p.m.,
Monday, Wednesday, and Friday to accept payments
on bills, receive beneficiary travel, or deposit funds
for patient accounts. Patient withdrawals can be
made from your account on Monday, Wednesday,
and Friday (only) from 9:00 a.m. - 11:00 a.m. and
1:00 p.m. - 3:00 p.m. A maximum of $500 may be
withdrawn at any one time. A check will be sent to
the veteran's home address at the time of discharge
for any remaining balance over $500.
Prohibited Items
Patients are prohibited from having alcoholic
beverages, narcotics, firearms, ammunition, knives,
other weapons, lighter fluid, non-safety matches,
straight edge razors, or any medications from home.
Firearms and other dangerous weapons should be
given to the VA police for safekeeping.
Smoking Policy
The hospital is a smoke-free facility. Staff, visitors,
volunteers and patients may not smoke anywhere
indoors or within 25 feet of the Medical Center.
Smoking is permitted in selected indoor locations
and outdoor smoking shelter locations. You are
asked to be considerate of non-smokers. You are
subject to a fine of up to $50 if found not in compliance
with any directives posted for safety purposes.
Fire/Disaster Drill
The Medical Center and ROPC have a fire and
disaster plan for the protection of both patients
and staff. If you discover a fire, please notify an
employee as soon as possible. If you are on a unit that
needs to be evacuated, please follow the instructions
from the employees. Exit signs indicate locations of
emergency exits. Fire alarms are located near each
exit or dial 3333 on any VA phone.
Zero Tolerance for Violence
In order to maintain a safe environment for patients,
staff and visitors, the Medical Center has a "zero
tolerance" for violence. Behavior that is disruptive,
threatening or violent will result in immediate action
being taken.
Cameras, Video Equipment, Tape Recorders and Cellular Phones
For patient privacy, cameras, video equipment,
tape recorders, and cellular phones are generally
prohibited. If your family or friends wish to bring
in a camera, video camera or tape recorder they
must make the appropriate arrangements with the
nurse manager. Cellular phones are prohibited.
VA Police
VA Police are on duty 24 hours/day for your care
and protection. They can be reached by dialing
3333. Do not hesitate to contact them if the need
arises or if a family member or friend needs to be
escorted to his/her car.
Security Cameras
For your safety, and the safety of visitors and
employees, some areas at the Medical Center are
monitored by 24-hour security camera surveillance.
