Pathways at VA

Team discussing the Pathways Program at VA

What is Pathways?

Established to help recruit talented people to work in the Federal Government, the Pathways Programs target students and recent graduates of all ages and backgrounds. Pathways consists of three distinct programs: the Internship Program, the Recent Graduates Program, and the Presidential Management Fellows (PMF) Program. The Internship Program is designed for current students, while the Recent Graduates Program is for individuals who have recently graduated from qualifying institutions. The PMF Program is a unique leadership development opportunity for candidates who have earned a graduate or professional degree within the past two years.

Why Pathways at VA?

The mission of the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) is to fulfill President Lincoln's promise “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are Veterans. Whether serving directly or indirectly, VA employees care about supporting Veterans. As the need for support grows, so does the need to recruit dedicated, talented, and educated individuals who can replace an aging Federal workforce and continue to effectively fulfill VA’s mission.

As a Pathways participant, your benefits include:

  • The opportunity to learn, grow, and serve in an organization with many locations and career fields
  • Dedicated support from senior leadership committed to recruiting and retaining top talent
  • A lifelong career in public service
