About Us - VA History Office
In April 2020, the Department of Veterans Affairs formerly established the VA History Office to manage an overarching history initiative in a collaborative effort with different administrations and other federal departments.
As part of this initiative, VA committed two historic buildings at the Dayton VA Medical Center in Ohio to house the National VA History Center (NVAHC). This will provide a central collection point to catalog and preserve artifacts and give the public access to the VA story.
There are multiple stakeholders who support the VA history mission including a team of historians, records managers and caring employees to make this work.
Within the VA History Office, the VA Chief Historian manages the development of the NVAHC and the VA History Program. Each VA Administration has historian teams that serve as critical experts that increases the effectiveness of the collaborative process.
Across the nation, millions of Veterans have participated in the VA experience. The VA History Office has the responsibility to promote the understanding and study of that relationship.
