CALL FOR ARTICLES:  Activity Accomplishments / Success Stories

The SSVF Program Office is accepting grantee submissions describing success stories related to the provision of SSVF services in the local community.  These submissions provide grantees with the opportunity to chronicle successes and share them with the VA, partner Federal agencies, consumer providers, the general public and, of course, Veterans who may be seeking services.  Please review the attached materials for submission instructions. Materials include an overview of process and two Releases of Information (ROIs).  Please note that it is now required that both ROIs be completed and submitted along with the success story.  Success stories can be viewed at:

REMINDER:  Mandatory Webinar for Priority 1 Grantees (Surge Awards) Awarded in FY 2015 on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 2 PM EST

The SSVF Program Office is hosting a mandatory webinar on Monday, March 20, 2017 at 2 PM EST for ALL SSVF grantees with an active P1 (Surge) Grant.  These are those P1 grantees with active programs that began on 10/1/2014 or 04/1/2015.  Grantees have already been notified via email, which was sent to the four contacts listed within GIFTS.   We strongly encourage grantees to have their Fiscal and Operations personnel join the call, as it will be focused upon expenditures and options for extensions, as indicated.

NOTE:  This is NOT a webinar for active renewal awards; it is only for grantees with award numbers beginning with C15 or C2015.

REMINDER: Mandatory Return of SSVF Grant Funds

During the current grant year, FY 2017, the SSVF Program Office is implementing the mandatory return of unspent grant funds. Per the grant agreement between VA and SSVF grantees, the SSVF Program Office will recoup funds from grantees who are not meeting the minimum expenditure rates.  This is the first year mandatory returns will be implemented.  The grant agreement (MOA) describes that, after each quarter, grantees are required to have a minimum percentage of funds drawn from the HHS Payment Management System; 1st quarter – 15% or more; 2nd quarter – 40% or more; 3rd quarter – 65% or more.  The SSVF Program Office is currently developing the procedures for how this will be completed and will inform grantees as soon as possible.  In the meantime, please review your grant expenditures and your projected spending for the remainder of the grant year. The first mandatory return of funds will take place immediately following the end of the 2nd quarter (April). If you have questions about this new process for FY2017, please contact the SSVF Program Office at ssvf@va.gov.

NOTE:  Mandatory return does not apply to FY2015 Priority 1 (Surge) grants beginning with C15 or C2015.

HUD Coordinated Entry Webinars in March

HUD will be hosting coordinated entry webinars (same webinar but several time/date options) during the month of March. The SSVF Program Office strongly encourages SSVF grantees to participate in one of these webinars.

The goal of the webinar is to educate participants about the components of the Notice Establishing Additional Requirements for Continuum of Care Centralized or Coordinated Assessment System. This webinar will connect the dots across all of HUD's Coordinated Entry requirements and recommendations, help communities understand the requirements, and what steps a community should consider to evaluate and ensure compliance. Participants will be introduced to HUD's Technical Assistance (TA) materials to aid their compliance efforts, including a checklist of essential elements assessment tool (available on the HUD Exchange).
