Save the Date: Rapid Re-Housing Institute (RRHI)

The SSVF Program Office, with the support of the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development (HUD), the U.S. Interagency Council on Homelessness and other federal and national partners, is pleased to announce a Save the Date for the second annual Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) Institutes. These events are specifically targeted to RRH practitioners and crisis response system planners!

The VA, in close partnership with its partners and technical assistance providers, and other national partners, are currently planning the two Rapid Rehousing Institutes for the fall of 2018 (both events will be identical in content). These events, which will be different in format and content from the 2017 events, will bring together RRH practitioners and planners from around the country for an intensive, 1.5-day training and conference event focused on topics and creative solutions to rapid rehousing and rapid resolution (diversion and rapid exit) practices.

SSVF grantees will spend an extra half day beyond their CoC partner attendees, making this a full two-day event for grantees. A preliminary agenda will be released later in the summer.

Due to space limitations, there will be a limit to the number of individual attendees per SSVF grantee. The Program Office will provide instructions on who should attend from each organization when registration opens later in the summer.

While the site locations are still being confirmed, we anticipate the following schedule:

•  East Coast Rapid Rehousing Institute: October 2 - October 3, 2018 (City TBD) •  West Coast Rapid Rehousing Institute: October 16 - October 17, 2018 (City TBD)

We will continue to provide information as registration and travel logistics come into focus. In the meantime, questions related to these events can be sent to the SSVF program’s technical assistance address at ssvf@tacinc.org.

This event is being sponsored by the VA, with support from HUD and USICH, and the primary SSVF TA partners, The Technical Assistance Collaborative and Abt Associates.

Request: SOAR Annual Data Due July 31

The SAMHSA SOAR TA Center is collecting outcomes on SSI/SSDI initial applications and appeals with decision dates in FY 2018 (July 1, 2017 -June 30, 2018). If you are not sure which method your state uses to collect outcomes, please contact your SOAR State Team Lead: https://soarworks.prainc.com/directory.  The data submission deadline is Tuesday, July 31.

Remember that every approval is a life transformed.  Thank you for all the amazing work that you do! Please do not hesitate to reach out to the SAMHSA SOAR TA Center at soar@prainc.com if you have any questions.

Update: The Returning Home Initiative

The Returning Home Initiative (RHI) was launched as a pilot in the beginning of FY17.  The purpose of the pilot was to assist Veterans in moving from high cost, low vacancy areas back to their communities of origin where they had a stronger support network.  Since the pilot’s inception, several Veteran households have successfully moved from the San Francisco Bay Area to lower cost communities to be with their families and friends.  Currently, the participating departure communities for the Returning Home Initiative include: Los Angeles/Long Beach, San Diego, San Francisco/Oakland, Santa Clara and Seattle.   SSVF providers participating in the Rapid Resolution Pilot Program are also eligible to take part in the Returning Home Initiative.  Our SSVF Program Office recently posted the attached document, “Returning Home Initiative, Description and FAQs,” to the SSVF website.  For questions about the Returning Home Initiative please contact SSVF Regional Coordinators Maxie Pulliam at Maxine.Pulliam@va.gov, Rayme Nuckles at Rayme.Nuckles@va.gov, or Katie Morrissett at Catherine.Morrissett@va.gov

RHI Description and Frequently Asked Questions document is attached to this update and available on the SSVF Website under Enhanced Services Section at:
