On July 16, 2020,
VA announced an additional $400M in additional CARES supplemental funding for
the Supportive Services for Veteran Families (SSVF) Program. A portion of these
funds will support each grantee in employing designated Health Care Navigators
to work with VA Medical Center staff, to ensure appropriate care coordination
for Veterans in need of appointments at local VAMC. These navigators will work
with designated VA points of contact and VA primary care teams when indicated
to establish regular case conferences to review ongoing care coordination. The
SSVF Program Office will present a webinar describing the role of the SSVF
Health Care Navigator and tips for recruitment and hiring. SSVF Program Office
staff will also discuss plans for supporting grantees in developing and
training new Health Care Navigator staff.
A registration
link to the webinar will be provided in the next SSVF weekly update.
ATTENTION: SSVF
Grantee COVID-19 Resources
As the SSVF
Program Office continues to support Grantees serving Veterans during COVID-19,
we want to ensure we are sharing the newest and best information possible. With
our TA providers’ efforts, the SSVF Program Office will continue to share
information learned from Grantees in a collection of documents intended to
create a Grantee Resource Toolkit to support services provisions during this
time. TA has developed two additional documents for Grantees to
review.
• SSVF COVID-19
Guidance - Health & Symptom Check
• SSVF COVID-19
Expenditure Timeline
While our TA
providers will continue to develop information for Grantees to review and
utilize, these documents can be found on the SSVF website, under SSVF Response
to COVID-19 Guidance section, at the link below:

SSVF & HUD-VASH Program Collaborations
As part of the
SSVF Program's ongoing commitment to homeless Veterans during COVID-19, SSVF
grantees are encouraged to work with local HUD-VASH teams to strengthen
collaboration efforts to ensure that Veterans are moved into safe and
affordable permanent housing quickly. In May of this year, the SSVF Program
Office announced the grantees' ability to provide supports to HUD-VASH Programs
for housing search, placement, and rental assistance. In July 2020, SSVF was
awarded an additional $400M in CARES Act funding; this significantly increased
SSVF and HUD-VASH's opportunity to collaborate in their collective effort to
move vulnerable Veterans into permanent housing. The Program Office Regional
Coordinators will work with grantees, HUD-VASH leadership, and local HUD-VASH
staff to support coordination. Please reach out to your SSVF Regional
Coordinator for any additional questions or concerns.
Thank you,
SSVF Program Office
