VA announces
public virtual listening sessions to guide development and implementation of
the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide Prevention Grant Program
The Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA) will be holding two public virtual listening sessions
to help inform VA’s development of the Staff Sergeant Parker Gordon Fox Suicide
Prevention Grant Program (SSG Fox SPGP) and its implementing regulations. The
virtual sessions will occur on May 25th and May 26th from
10:00a.m. to 5:00p.m. Eastern Standard Time. Virtual check-in will begin at
9:00a.m. for registered speakers. Oral comments, testimonies, and/or technical
remarks will be time limited based on the number of speakers (see notice for
details). The SSG Fox SPGP, created pursuant to Section 201 of the Commander
John Scott Hannon Veterans Mental Health Care Improvement Act of 2019, is a
three-year community-based grant program that would provide financial
assistance to eligible entities to provide or coordinate providing suicide
prevention services to eligible Veterans and their families. On April 1, 2021,
VA published a request for information in the Federal Register (86 FR 17268) seeking written comments from the
public with an accompanying Press Release. Listening sessions are an
opportunity for interested persons to help inform VA’s development of the SSG
Fox SPGP.

The Department
of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Salesforce are hosting a SQUARES Workshop on May
20, 2021 from 12:00pm to 2:00pm EST to educate users about the new SQUARES
functionality that will help organizations connect Veterans with programs and
services. The agenda includes information about the importance of
providing fast and accurate services to homeless or at-risk Veterans, live
demonstrations, information about eligibility verification, along with a
designated time for questions and answers. Follow the links below for

SSVF 2021 Virtual Program Manager Academy Registration Runs June 1, 2021 to June 18, 2021
This year, the
SSVF Program Office is hosting a Virtual Program Manager Academy. This
virtual event allows for more SSVF Grantee staff and Program Managers to attend
and hear from the Program Office regarding a variety of topics. There
will be 9 individual topic sessions for all SSVF Program Managers new and
existing, followed by smaller breakout workgroup discussion sessions intended
for new managers.
All SSVF
Program Managers are
strongly encouraged to attend the Program Manager Academy sessions taking place
throughout the month of June, per the schedule below. We would
like to draw your attention specifically to the June 1st Opening
Plenary Session where you will hear from the SSVF National Director, John
Kuhn about the trajectory of the SSVF Program nationally, and the June 4th
Customer Service that will discuss service provisions from initial contact
to close out contacts.
Please
note: New Program Managers,
who have been specifically identified by their SSVF Regional Coordinator, will
also be invited to participate in a post-session workgroup discussion based on
the topic(s) discussed in the larger broadcast sessions. These specific Program
Managers will receive a separate invitation for the smaller group discussions
taking place each afternoon during the Program Manager Academy. The Program
Office will also send additional information that contains pre-reading and
content in the Housing Skills Practice Center that new Program Managers will be
asked to complete prior to or throughout June.
