DUE: Budget Update Activities Due in SmartSimple

All SSVF Grantees will need to review both the previously submitted CARES/FY21 Budget Submission and the Shallow Subsidy Budget Submission and make updates as needed. These activities are in the “revisions required” status within SmartSimple.

·         The Shallow Subsidy Budget Activity should be updated to reflect the additional funds as outlined in the recent addendum. Please update the budget to reflect the total amount of funding provided in the MOA, plus the amount in the addendum.

MOA funds + addendum funds = Budget total. This activity is due in SmartSimple on 10/29/2021.

·         The CARES/FY21 Budget Submission should be reviewed to ensure that Health Care Navigator and Legal Services are existing line items. If they are not, they should be added to your budget and as a result the projected end date of FY21 spending should be adjusted to an earlier date to account for these additional expenses. If the Budget Submission already includes both line items and there is no plan to adjust funding for these line items, the activity can be resubmitted as is. The due date for this activity is 11/12/2021.

If you have any questions regarding these two activities, please reach out to your Regional Coordinator or email the SSVF inbox at: ssvf@va.gov

NEW: SSVF and HUD-VASH Progressive Assistance and Coordination Considerations (PDF attached)

The COVID-19 pandemic and resulting infusion of U.S. Department of Veteran Affairs (VA) homeless program resources, partnerships and coordination opportunities provides for unprecedented opportunity to make gainful progress toward ending homelessness among Veterans. Communities are given the opportunity to strategically use all available housing and service resources to prevent and end homelessness for Veterans. In particular, the availability of HUD-VASH and SSVF’s new Shallow Subsidy services provide a unique opportunity for communities to target longer-term, more robust resources to those Veterans needing more housing assistance than traditional SSVF Rapid Re-Housing (RRH) and Homelessness Prevention (HP) supports. Communities are encouraged to consider how to implement a progressive, coordinated approach to allocating housing and service packages based on available resources, provider capacity, and Veteran needs and desires.
