Colleen Walsh-Irwin, DNP, RN, ANP-BC, AACC, FAANP

Colleen Walsh-Irwin was inducted as a Fellow of the American Association of Nurse Practitioners on June 28, 2018 at the AANP National Conference in Denver, CO. The FAANP program was established in 2000 to recognize nurse practitioner leaders who have made outstanding contributions to health care through clinical practice, research, education and policy. Fellows of AANP are visionaries and, as such, hold an annual think tank to strategize about the future of nurse practitioners and health care. The new Fellows will continue to demonstrate leadership and contribute to the mission of AANP. Currently, AANP has 77,000 members.

Anabel Quintanar, RN-BC, MSN, wins AAACN Award

Anabel Quintanar

Anabel Quintanar, RN-BC, MSN, from VA Greater Los Angeles Healthcare System, was the winner of the Clinical Excellence Award at the 2018 American Academy of Ambulatory Care Nursing 43rd Annual Conference. Anabel was also a VA Secretary's Nursing Excellence Award winner this year. Quintanar is a Patient Aligned Care Team RN float nurse for the Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo CBOCs and is board certified by the American Nurses Credentialing Center in ambulatory care nursing. She has worked 10 years in ambulatory care and has been selected for her nursing knowledge and expertise by international publisher Lippincott, Williams, & Wilkins to contribute to the company’s text books and other publications as a clinical editor for ambulatory care nursing.

Quintanar is also the president and founder of Central Coast Nurse Professionals. Recognizing that the Santa Maria and San Luis Obispo areas lack nursing professional groups, she decided to create a professional organization in Jan 2017 with a goal of creating a local nursing community. Her mission is to work toward nurse empowerment through local communities by supporting the practice of nursing for all specialties and levels.

Quintanar comes from nearby Guadalupe, California, a place she describes as “a small, migrant community town with many Vietnam-era Veterans.” Both her father and uncle were drafted in the Vietnam-Era war and she considers it an honor to serve Veterans.
