Nursing Education

Access to high quality, timely health care requires a competent nursing workforce. In recent years, the Office of Academic Affiliations (OAA) has implemented multiple innovative nursing workforce training programs to enhance nursing education and practice by facilitating a stronger and mutually beneficial partnership between the U.S. Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) and Schools of Nursing (SON) across the nation. To address the current national shortage of experienced nursing workforce, OAA pioneered Registered Nurse (RN) and Nurse Practitioner (NP) residency programs. OAA supports the clinical training of more than 25,000 nursing students annually.

Each program offers unique opportunities for participants to develop competent, confident, practice-ready RNs and NPs equipped with the knowledge and skills to address the specific needs of our nation's Veterans served by the Veterans Health Administration (VHA) and community. Explore the programs to learn about availability, requirements and locations of specific opportunities.
