About the Course
Taking Charge of My Life and Health (TCMLH) is a group-based program designed to support Veteran participants to connect with what matters most in life and to build an empowered approach to their health and wellbeing. Learning how to facilitate these groups is important to building a safe, supportive environment to guide participants through the Whole Health process. Therefore, this three-day, experiential training will teach the skills necessary to become group facilitators to lead the up to 9-week curriculum of the TCMLH program through the use of lectures, Power Point presentations, and small and large group activities. Attendees will also learn how to utilize the Personal Health Inventory (PHI) to assist Veterans in identifying their purpose, goals and action steps for lifestyle and behavior change. As a result, this course can build interactive connections among Veterans that can lead to longer term support systems in the future.
In summary, the facilitation skills learned at this training are designed to assist the Veterans in:
- Exploring their life mission, aspirations, and purpose
- Learning the practice of mindfulness
- Goal setting, skill-building, and self-management of their health and health care, with the support of a group of their peers
- Supporting the Veterans through the change process
